Patara Fine Thai Cuisine in Bangkok, Thailand

I love Thai food! I guess the biggest misconception about it is that most people would think every dish is just spicy – Patara Restaurant in Bangkok begged to differ. Patara is an upscale dining establishment in the colourful city of Bangkok serving contemporary Thai cuisine but still maintaining the authenticity of the Thai flavours.
Located in the heart of a secluded chichi residential area in Sukhumvit, you may want to call first so the local staff can help you directing your cab driver.
Upon entering the compound, you will be greeted by a large and lush garden that also has an alfresco dining area. The interiors of the restaurant is kept to be traditional, relaxed and with a homey feel to it. The bar and lounge area comes first that has comfy seating areas where you can enjoy pre-meal drinks or snacks.
Patara was also awarded one of Thailand’s BEST Restaurants for 2012
The dining area has a great view of the lush garden outside. Although there’s an ample amount of natural light, the mood inside Patara is still very intimate and quite perfect for romantic dates.
Every meal starts with some complimentary taro chips – crispy and a little salty. If you liked it, they also retail it by the bag.
Their version of the Tom Yum (ต้มยำกุ้งแม่น้ำ) soup is one of the cleanest-tasting versions I’ve had. It’s flavourful and not overly spicy. You’ll actually taste the different herbs, spices and meat stock that they used in this sourish dish.
Their version of the popular Indonesian dish, Satay Trio (สะเต๊ะไก่,กุ้ง,หมู) is also a great appetizer, accompanied by a thick peanut sauce.
The Green Papaya Salad (ผักโครงการหลวงผัดน้ำมันหอย) is simply refreshing on a hot summer day!
For mains, I had the Slow braised beef in perfumed coconut-herbs and mint sauce (เนื้อต้มกะทิทรงเครื่อง) and, as shown on the first picture on top, the tamarind glazed crispy fried duck confit (เป็ดทอดซอสมะขาม). Both the dishes’ way of cooking may be a fusion of Thai and Western Cuisines (French), but the flavours are definitely Thai – slightly sourish with a bit of a kick. They’re yummy, the meat is tender and juicy and it hits you in all the right spots!
Patara is definitely one of the MUST GO restaurants in Bangkok if you’re looking for authentic Thai food with a nice ambiance and surrounding.
