Taipei: Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall

Located right in the heart of Taipei City is one of the most famous landmarks, the Chiang Kai Shek (CKS) Memorial Hall.
Aside from Taipei 101, the CKS Memorial Hall is one of those places wherein you have to do an obligatory photo with. 🙂
Officially opened on August of 1980, the CKS Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the former president of Taiwan, Chiang Kai Shek.
In front of this 250,000 square meters complex in Zhongshan South Road in Taipei is the Gate of Great Centrality and Perfect Uprightness.
Alongside the main memorial hall are 2 other great works of architecture, The National Concert Hall which holds holds a more intimate Recital Hall
And the National Theater that contains a smaller Experimental Theater.
The Liberty Square which is a vast plaza in the center of the whole complex has also hosted major concerts and events in Taipei.
The vastness of Liberty Square including the National Concert Hall and National Theater.
Inside the CKS Memorial Hall is a museum exhibiting the life of Chiang Kai Shek
Upon entering, you will be greeted by a large painting of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who is referred to as the “Father of the Nation” in the Republic of China (ROC) with Chiang Kai Shek.
A lot of memorabilia can also be found here, like medals and recognitions given by different agencies and nations to Chiang Kai Shek
The clothes that he used, including his Military uniform. His everyday clothes showed how thrifty he was as he liked stitching torn parts and refused to purchase new clothes.
His cars! He has 2 Cadillacs displayed here, one is given by the overseas chinese in the Philippines which he only used ONCE as it was “too heavy”.
My favourite part is the replica of CKS’ Office. Everything, even the books’ arrangement, paintings, is exactly how he used to arrange them.
This was the original winding clock in his office which, mysteriously, stopped on the same time as his death on April 5, 1975.
The Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall is very accessible as well so there’s no reason that you’ll miss visiting this Popular Tourist Landmark in Taipei when you’re in town. It has its own station along the Xindian Line of the Taipei MRT Network.
